Boston is certainly a city of radio innovation.
By the 2000s, with "local" radio falling pray to the major media companies and on-air personalities becoming less and less, well, personal... there was a feeling that part of Boston was being taken away. Finally, the idea of an actual person speaking their mind and playing what they wanted seemed to have vanished and radio became too predictable.
With that in mind, the idea behind UNregular Radio is to resurrect local radio.
Not only did we lose honest talk and good music, but comedy and art and everything else that is tied in to the Boston community no longer had a viable on-air outlet. With the FCC neutering terrestrial radio, the only option left was to establish a sanctuary where DJs can say what they want and play the music they want to share with you.
By streaming online, UNregular Radio allows DJs to offer a trusted and honest opinion on music, art, politics, and news while filtering through the stuff you haven't got time for, just like radio DJs used to and are supposed to do.
Started in October of 2009, with a handful of live shows in a small studio, UNregular Radio quickly outgrew its original location and now operates out of downtown Boston in a large studio space that easily accommodates more than 40 shows and DJs with daily live on-air performances.
The live sound from UNregular surpasses anything coming from other radio stations around Boston. We push and will continue pushing to create and provide fresh local content every day for our listeners in Boston, our listeners from Boston living elsewhere, and our listeners who just plain love this raging Boston scene.
